Announcing the SAGE Pine Forge
Teaching Innovations & Professional Development Award

ASA Award

Partly inspired by authors of Our Social World: Introduction to Sociology, SAGE Pine Forge, together with several of its authors and editors, created this award fund in 2007 to help graduate students and pre-tenure faculty attend the annual American Sociological Association pre-conference on Preparing Future Faculty, hosted by the Section on Teaching and Learning in Sociology.

Now in its fourth year, 53 award winners have been named to date. 2008 award winner Ana Villalobos, a Ph.D. candidate at University of California, Berkeley, wrote to say “THANK YOU SO MUCH for funding me to attend the pre-conference on teaching, which was the single BEST experience I've ever had regarding my sociology teaching.”

In 2008, SAGE Pine Forge’s contributions were recognized by the ASA’s Section on Teaching & Learning in Sociology for ‘providing extraordinary service to the discipline of sociology and to the enhancement of teaching and learning sociology.’

Thank you for supporting SAGE Pineforge. Every time you choose a SAGE Pine Forge sociology text, you support this award.

Here's what award winners are saying about the pre-conference:

"...At this conference I not only re-affirmed my commitment to teaching, but I also learned practical skills that will serve me throughout my career...I think your support of this workshop speaks volumes about your commitment to higher education and I would personally like to thank you for this support."

Kerry Greer,
Associate Instructor
Department of Sociology, Indiana University

"I have been teaching at the college level for eight years and I learned more that day than in those previous eight years. It is a fantastic opportunity for young teachers and I hope that you consider continuing your support."

Daina Cheyenne Harvey,
Managing Editor, Sociological Forum
Presidential Fellow, Carnegie Foundation

"I would be remiss if I didn't let you know that this was truly one of the most useful, well-coordinated conferences I have ever attended...So thank you, so much, for sponsoring such a worthwhile program, and providing us future faculty with an excellent opportunity to learn and grow as both teachers and scholars."

Jennifer A. Jones, University of California Berkeley
